As the holidays draw near, you may be planning a trip to visit family or take a much-needed vacation. When getting organized for your trip, don’t forget to consider your eye health.
Today, Alderwood Optical shares four optometrist-recommended eye care tips for travel.
Tip #1: Make Sure to Keep Your Eyes Clean
During vacation, many people stray from their usual daily routine. However, never forget to wash your face and remove all your makeup before going to sleep. Failing to clean your eyes in particular can increase the risk of an eye infection.
Tip #2: Stay Hydrated
Air travel can cause your eyes to dry out, as can fatigue due to lengthy travel days and moving to new time zones. That’s why it’s important to stay hydrated. Doing so keeps your eyes moisturized and healthy.
Tip #3: Don’t Forget to Bring Your Prescription Eyewear
Think about what you will be doing on your trip and make sure you pack the right eyewear. Will you be spending a lot of time outside? Then don’t forget your sunglasses. If you wear disposable contact lenses, make sure to pack enough to get you through your trip, along with the cleaning solution recommended by your optometrist.
Tip #4: Wear Sunglasses
No matter where you’re going, whether to the woods, mountains or beach, it’s important to bring protection for your eyes. Wear sunglasses that offer 100% UV protection whenever you’re heading outdoors. Oversized sunglasses are also a great idea since they provide more coverage.
